This could be you...
- IF these are qualities that you would like to use to portray
your business, then you've found a program to sponsor...Welcome
to COLLEGE BOWL.
Basketball, baseball, football, tennis, golf, soccer...
I don't care what game you mention, many of us quickly develop
an insatiable appetite for all of them. It's the action, the competition,
the demonstration of superior ability, the camaraderie, the cooperative
effort of team play, the individual displays of incredible skills,
the vicarious thrill that "that could be me out there"
and, as Jim McKay used to tell us "...the thrill of victory,
the agony of defeat."
COLLEGE BOWL is like a lot like other sports. Information is our
ball. Like other games, not only do people intuitively understand
how to play it, love to play it and watch it, it's got tremendous
marketing potential too.
College Bowl began almost 50 years ago.
It was created and brought to the air by Don Reid. A lot of us
remember it from its heyday on television and all of us, young and
old, have been influenced by it. With slight shifts in nuance to
fit the setting, it's been played by people from elementary school
into graduate school and beyond ever since 1953, when host Allen
Ludden first uttered the words "You're playing for a 25 point
bonus, here's your 10 point toss-up..."
Although you don't see College Bowl on television right now, it's
alive and well. In fact, it's stronger than ever. It's been organized
into a nationwide competition leading to a yearly national championship.
About three hundred of the nation's colleges and universities sign-up
to compete every year. Campus play begins in the fall, with Regionals
in mid-February and the National Championship Tournament in April.
Our staff, plus a network of volunteers that is thousands strong,
under the direction of the Association of College Unions International
(ACUI), oversee the program.
As you familiarize yourself with COLLEGE BOWL, remember that our
program and our long-standing relationships and friendships with
the campus constituency, including presidents of universities, faculty
and administrators, key buyers, students, parents and alumni, will
serve you and your company in developing and implementing the goals
of your marketing campaign.
The most recent addition to the College Bowl legacy is CAMPUS ALL-STAR
CHALLENGE, (CASC). It's the same game, but it's played exclusively
by America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
It came into existence in 1989-90 in a cooperative effort with American
Honda. Now in its thirteenth year, CASC has raised over three million
dollars in scholarship grants for our nation's HBCUs.
We look forward to showing you how we can turn our business into
a public service and marketing bonanza for you! Please feel free
to contact me for further information.
p.s. Browse through our COLLEGE BOWL www site at your leisure.
It's full of information -- from history to current year plans to
a wealth of tools which the campuses use to administer their local
programs.
